Two senior BBC bosses – director-general Tim Davie and CEO of news Deborah Turness – have resigned following accusations of bias within the corporation’s news coverage.

The pair announced they were stepping down after a leaked memo, published by The Daily Telegraph last week, suggested the BBC’s coverage on Donald Trump , migration, transgender issues, and the Israel-Hamas conflict was imbalanced.

This crisis has arguably undermined the BBC’s promise to the public of “due impartiality” and comes at a time when the licence fee is already up for debate. There have long been calls to rethink how the national broadcaster is funded – and these will be louder following the scandal.
