The puck dropped this past weekend on the 41st Terry O’Neill Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Tournament, a signature event of Hockey Town Canada that helped put it on the map.
The first of four Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Tournaments, the Wib McLaughlin U11 (under 11) weekend, was a tough one for local teams with none of the area’s entrants advancing to the playoff round.
While action began Friday afternoon, Nov. 7, the opening ceremonies for the tournament were held before the Pembroke U11 Kings first game at 6 p.m. at the Pembroke Memorial Centre against the Lindsay Muskies.
“Over the last 41 years this tournament has hosted some 4,900 teams,” said Gerry Bergeron, Silver Stick committee member and MC for the opening ceremony. “What a great accomplishment for minor hockey in our area
