ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WTVD) -- The body of a man who had been reported missing in Nash County was found floating in the Tar River on Monday morning by Rocky Mount police.

At 9:30 a.m., the Rocky Mount Fire Department was called about a rescue involving a man floating face down in the Tar River near the 1100 block of Falls Road.

The Swift Water Emergency Rescue Team was deployed and recovered a body from the water.

On Monday afternoon, RMPD announced that the Nash County Sheriff's Office was taking over as the lead investigating agency.

The Nash County Sheriff's Office said Monday evening that the body had been identified as that of Jevon Rashad Battle.

Battle had been reported missing on Nov. 3 to the sheriff's office after last being seen in the 10000 bloc
