One of the men who pleaded guilty last year to playing a role in the attempt on the life of alleged Montreal Mafia leader Leonardo Rizzuto has been denied parole.
In a decision made late last week, the Parole Board of Canada decided to deny Steve Emmanuel Barthelemy, 36, both day and full parole.
According to a written summary of the decision, Barthelemy told the board during a hearing held last week that he only acted as a driver and didn’t know what his brother-in-law, Kevin Rochebrun, was going to do before Rochebrun opened fire on the vehicle Rizzuto was driving along Highway 440 in Laval in March 2023. Rizzuto survived the attempt on his life, but he was struck by three bullets and was hospitalized for days.
