Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) share a meaningful embrace in Starz's fourth season of 'Outlander.'

The final season of Starz's cult-favorite time travelling drama "Outlander" is upon us with Season 8 of the series scheduled to premiere in March next year, the streamer announced Nov. 10.

The "epic conclusion" of the series, according to Starz, will see Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) experience "a heart-wrenching journey" and fans "can anticipate tender romance and the edge-of-your-seat drama" they "have come to cherish over the past eight seasons."

Season 7 of “Outlander,” inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books, ended with Jamie’s fateful decision to resigning from his Continental Army commission and returning to Fraser’s Ridge with Claire. In Season 8, the couple "soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence."

"With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together," the series synopsis says.

"While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun," it adds.
