CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - Police at Eastern Illinois University could not find an armed person on campus, despite a call to a non-emergency line.

Eastern Illinois University issued a public safety alert to its campus around 9:20 a.m. Monday morning.

After searching campus, police said they could not confirm the report.

"No individual matching the report was located and the report appears to be unfounded," said a post on the university's Facebook page.

Police said at 9:45 a.m. officers had searched campus and reviewed surveillance video but didn't find anyone who appeared armed. Campus operations returned to normal.

Police said anyone on campus who sees anything suspicious should call 911.
