CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police has launched a new initiative aimed at curbing vehicle break-ins and other quality-of-life crimes that have surged in recent months across the city.
The specialized unit, known as STANCE (Street and Nuisance Crime Enforcement), will focus on holding offenders accountable for property-related offenses while using data-driven strategies to target crime hotspots, police said.
“The recent rash of car break-ins across the city impacts the quality of life of our residents, our visitors, and our businesses,” Mayor Justin Bibb said in a statement. “They have rightfully spoken up and demanded action, and that is exactly what we are doing by launching this new, specialized initiative.
