A 2-month-old was found not breathing at a Pennsylvania home and later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma to the head, state police announced on Monday, Nov. 10.

Vincent Miceli, 32, of Butler, is accused of killing his infant after first responders were called to the 100 block of Spooner Drive at approximately 2:41 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, according to state police.

Butler Township Police and Butler EMS arrived and noted bruising on the baby’s head and torso before the child was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and pronounced deceased, troopers said. An autopsy on Sunday, Nov. 9, found the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head, investigators said.

Through their investigation, troopers determined the infant was in Miceli’s sole care throughout the day on Saturday, Nov. 8, authorities said. Miceli was charged with Felony Criminal Homicide, Felony Aggravated Assault, and Misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare of Children. He was taken to Butler County Prison, police said.

Court Details

Court records show Miceli’s preliminary arraignment was held before Judge Kevin J. Flaherty at 4:36 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, where bail was denied due to the homicide charge.

He remains held at Butler County Prison, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Kevin P. O’Donnell in Butler.

The Butler County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case. Miceli has not yet applied for or been assigned a public defender, according to court filings.
