A Sunday afternoon crash in Maryland turned deadly when a Silver Spring woman was killed after her SUV overturned, authorities said.

Officers and fire rescue personnel responded to the area of Old Columbia Pike and Musgrove Road around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, for a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a black Cadillac XT4, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.

When crews arrived, they found the Cadillac flipped onto its roof with two people trapped inside.

The driver, 69-year-old Laura Mae Martin, of Silver Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, police said. Her passenger, an adult man, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the Cadillac was traveling south on Old Columbia Pike when, for reasons still under investigation, Martin lost control near Musgrove Road, crossed into the northbound lane, hit a curb, left the roadway, struck two signs, and overturned.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate.

Police said it may take several weeks or longer before the cause is officially determined.
