KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - The chairman of the Lenoir County Republican Party withdrew one election protest and filed another one today against a different city council candidate.
Sean Keenan this morning asked the Lenoir County Board of Elections to remove his protest against Quarla Blackwell, saying after Tuesday’s results, “there is no way” she can be sworn in as a city council member.
At the same time, Keenan filed a protest against Les Lipford, who was one of the two top vote-getters for the two at-large council seats.
Keenan’s protest says there are questions about whether Lipford lives in the city. He says that while on candidacy papers, Lipford listed his address on Susan Avenue, the man owns a home on Wolf Lane, which is outside the city.
