HUMBOLDT, Iowa – Snow and ice are being blamed for a fatal collision Monday morning in Humboldt County.
The Iowa State Patrol says it happened around 7:44 am on Highway 3. The crash report says a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Deborah Lei Ruberg, 60 of Hardy, was heading west when Ruberg lost control on the snow and ice covered road, went into the eastbound lane, and was struck by an eastbound 2016 Freightliner tractor and trailer driven by Austin Lee Van Klompe, 37 of Maurice..
The collision occurred near the intersection with States Avenue.
The Iowa State Patrol says Ruberg was ejected from her vehicle and died as a result of her injuries. Van Klompe was not injured.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office as well as Humboldt police, fire, and EMS assisted with this accident.
