ROCHESTER, Minn. – A father who broke his infant son’s leg has been sentenced.
Jeffrey Michael Phillips, 43 of Stewartville, has been ordered to spend five years on supervised probation and perform 50 hours of community work service.
Phillips pleaded guilty to malicious punishment of a child for an incident on February 6. The Rochester Police Department says Phillips’ seven-week old son was brought into the emergency room with a leg broken in two pieces.
The child’s mother initially told investigators she tripped and fell down the stairs while holding the child at a home in Rochester. Court documents state the woman later changed her story and said Phillips may have hurt the child while dressing the child at a home in Stewartville.
