No charges are expected after a child died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound in southeast Louisville, Louisville Metro Police officials said.
LMPD responded to a report of a shooting in the 6900 block of Bardstown Road around 10:30 p.m. Nov. 8, spokesperson Matt Sanders said. When officers arrived, they found an 8-year-old child with “an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” he said. The child was later pronounced dead at the scene.
In a Nov. 10 news release, Sanders confirmed the child was alone in the room when the incident occurred, and two adults were inside the apartment.
Sanders said investigators believe the shooting was “accidental,” and it is being handled as a death investigation.
