LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville Metro Police are investigating after an 8-year-old was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers responded to a call at around 10:30 p.m. of a shooting in the 6900 block of Bardstown Road, on Saturday, Nov. 8.

At the scene, officers found an 8-year-old with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The child was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators now say the child was alone in the room. Two adults were also inside the apartment.

LMPD’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.

Detectives tell WAVE that the shooting is believed to be accidental. No charges are expected.
