James Bond has his work cut out for him in Kim Sherwood’s latest gripping novel.

The author is wrapping up her Double O trilogy next year with the novel Hurricane Room — and PEOPLE has an exclusive first excerpt.

Sherwood was chosen by Bond author Ian Fleming’s estate to write the series, which debuted in 2023 with Double or Nothing and was followed by A Spy Like Me in 2024.

In the riveting conclusion, Bond is still reeling after being tortured by Colonel Mora, the head of the brutal military company Rattenfänger.
