President Donald Trump once again hinted at sending money directly to Americans, this time a $2,000 “tariff dividend.”
He made the announcement on Truth Social on Nov. 9:
"People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone."
The comments came as the Supreme Court reviewed the legality of Trump-era tariffs and after Democrats made gains in the Nov. 4 elections.

Trump has floated similar proposals before, including returning money cut from federal agencies under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a plan that never materialized.
