Western Beaver offensive coordinator Tony Caltury pointed his bat toward the bleachers out in center field and called his shot.
Prior to the team’s WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinal matchup against No. 7 seed Apollo-Ridge last Friday, Caltury sent the opening play script in a text to a group chat with members of the offense. The texts read:
“1st play duo. 2nd play extra point.”

On the first play from scrimmage, Western Beaver junior Wyatt Sparbanie took a handoff — on a duo run — and bounced it outside before coasting 50 yards untouched to the end zone. Noah Schweikert booted in the ensuing extra point, and the No. 2 seed Golden Beavers (10-1) raced away to a 41-13 win.
