Mayfield police investigating suspected child abuse after victim treated at hospital for cigarette

MAYFIELD, Ky. (KFVS) - A Mayfield resident was arrested in connection with a child abuse investigation.

Sherrod T. Shelton, 30, was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Jail.

According to the Mayfield Police Department, they responded to the Jackson Purchase Medical Center around 2:19 p.m. on November 9 for a report of suspected child abuse.

Police talked with the victim and victim’s parents.

They say the victim had cigarette-type burns to his body. Doctors determined they were first-degree burns.

Police say the victim was released from the hospital with wound care.
