A 38-year-old man died while incarcerated in Pennsylvania, officials announced on Monday, Nov. 10.

The man was brought into the Allegheny County Jail on Oct. 1 on harassment charges, and while in custody, was sentenced for two protection-from-abuse violations, according to Warden Trevor Wingard.

A medical emergency was called at approximately 10:01 a.m. Monday after staff found the man unresponsive, the warden said. Jail personnel immediately began performing lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived at 10:22 a.m. He was pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m., officials said.

The individual’s emergency contact has been notified.

As standard procedure, an internal review is underway. The Allegheny County Police Department has also launched an investigation. The county’s Office of the Medical Examiner will release the man’s identity, along with the cause and manner of death, once their review is complete.
