The scene of the crash in Montgomery County.

Firefighters in Maryland didn’t even need to start their engines Sunday afternoon — the emergency came straight to them when a driver plowed across the lawn and bumped into the Hillandale Volunteer Fire Department building before taking off.

According to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer, it happened around 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, when a silver Honda drove up onto the grass and hit the front of the station on the 13200 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Colesville.

Luckily, no one was hurt and, as Piringer put it, “FS724 (Colesville) didn’t have to go far to check on a vehicle that drove across the lawn & barely made contact with the fire station.”

The driver didn’t stick around. They reportedly fled the scene before firefighters — quite literally already on site — could have a word.

Photos from the scene show the car wedged against the front of the brick building, surrounded by firefighters who didn’t have to look far for work that day.

Piringer confirmed there was no significant damage to the building. No details about the driver have been released.
