RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen have introduced a bill guaranteeing right of access to legal representation for detained migrants.

The Restoring Access to Detainees Act will require the Department of Homeland Security to guarantee access to counsel for detained migrants.

The bill comes after Rosen claims ICE and CBP have deprived detainees of the ability to access a lawyer.

“It’s outrageous that the Trump administration uses cruel tactics that deprive people of their rights during immigration enforcement as a way to intimidate immigrant communities and force them to live in fear,” said Senator Rosen . “We must ensure that everyone is offered equal justice under the law.”
