St. Catharines city council is asking Niagara Region officials overseeing homelessness to come to city hall to answer questions about shelter operations in Old Glenridge.
Councillors were discussing a motion from St. Andrew’s Couns. Matt Harris and Joe Kushner last week that requested the shelter be converted back from a low-barrier facility, which allows substance use, to a “dry facility” or high-barrier facility with restrictions.
But councillors had so many questions about the facility’s programming, funding and staffing that they deferred the issue until Niagara Region’s commissioner of community services can visit to discuss the issue.
