JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As cold weather moves into Northeast Florida , local shelters are stepping up to make sure everyone has a warm place to stay.
City Rescue Mission in Downtown Jacksonville is expanding its overnight capacity — opening its doors to an additional 60 people Monday night at its State Street location.
“These temperatures can be pretty dangerous,” said Paul Stasi, Executive Director of City Rescue Mission.
Stasi tells First Coast News the organization’s “cold weather shelter” plan allows anyone in need to come inside for food and warmth.
“During these next few days when it’s so cold, we offer what we call our cold weather shelter, so that’s just overflow, and it’s for anyone who can come in and get out of the cold, and take part in a warm evening,” Stasi said.
