APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - After Appleton renamed Memorial Park to Veterans Memorial Park, the city now has to decide on a name for the old Veterans Park located on Memorial Drive.

The current park is a small green space that greets drivers on their commute into downtown Appleton.

Martyn Smith, alderperson for District 4, says it is time to give the old Veterans Park a new identity.

“It would just be confusing to have two parks named Veterans. So immediately, once we recognized that the name Veterans was going to a place with better public access, we came back and thought we are gonna do something about this tiny park that needs a new name now,” Smith said.

Smith added that the city is encouraging the community to submit their ideas.
