COLUMBUS, Ohio — Even though there’s some hope that the federal government shutdown will come to an end, travel experts warn the delays and cancellations will linger for a few days while airlines get themselves back on schedule.

Across the country this weekend, thousands of flights were canceled or delayed. According to Going.com travel expert Katy Nastro, about 3,000 flights were canceled on Sunday and nearly 10,000 were delayed. Travelers were left stranded and many had to find alternate ways to get to their destinations.

“Yesterday was the fourth-worst day in the last two years. In terms of cancellations, there were upwards of almost 3,000 flights canceled,” Nastro said. “On any given day, we see about 2% of flights being canceled. That's been the average in the last few years after
