ANDOVER TOWNSHIP — A new bill proposed by Rep. Josh Gottheimer would rename Sussex County's first veterans affairs clinic in honor of a man committed to helping service members throughout his life.

The legislation, announced Nov. 10 in a press conference at American Legion Post 86 on Yates Avenue, would rename the Newton Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) after Anthony "Tony" J. Gallopo, who died at age 59 in December 2020 .

Gallopo, who grew up in Bergen County before settling in Sussex County, was heavily involved in military causes after serving in the U.S. Navy, holding roles as commander of the Newton post and vice commander of the American Legion Department of New Jersey.
