CANTON, New York (WWNY) - More than 200 St. Lawrence County families are expected to be left out of a state-funded program that helps them pay for child care. It could lead to households making tough choices.
On December 1, the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services will start denying most applications for the Child Care Assistance Program for 2026.
The state-funded service helps families pay for daycare. Applications started to be accepted in October, and with so many applications being submitted in such a short amount of time, the county is forced to set a cut-off point.
“In previous years, we didn’t have quite so many people in the program, so the funding was adequate, and actually, a couple years ago, we had leftover funds we were able to roll over,” said Joseph Seeber
