ALBANY, New York (WWNY) - SNAP payments have started to arrive on people’s cards after New York state stepped in to provide the funding, given the federal government shutdown.
Jefferson County leaders have said that payments started Sunday, although it may take until Thursday for everyone to get the food assistance money.
After New York and other states said they would fund the snap program, the Trump administration ordered the states not to.
State Attorney General Letitia James announced on Monday that the state won a court order that temporarily blocks the Trump administration’s attempt to take back SNAP funding and punish states that issued the funding to people who are in need.
