AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Salvation Army of Augusta is preparing for a busy holiday season as the government shutdown continues past 40 days and freezing temperatures are expected.

Major Jonathan Raymer, area commander for the Salvation Army of Augusta, said they see a high level of need from the beginning of November through the Christmas season.

With the extended government shutdown, they expect more people to need help with utilities as heat becomes a necessity and utility bills climb during the winter months.

Decoration and preparation are underway at the Kroc Center as the organization gets ready to assist those who may not be financially prepared for rising winter costs.
