BISMARCK, N.D. (KMOT) – Two current justices on the North Dakota Supreme Court have announced their candidacy for Chief Justice.
Justices Lisa Fair McEvers and Jerod Tufte will seek the chief justice seat.
Last week, current Chief Justice Jon Jensen announced he would not seek another term as chief justice but would remain on the high court.
Fair McEvers was first appointed to the Supreme Court in 2014, while Tufte has served since 2016.
The chief justice serves for a five-year term, or until that justice’s term on the court expires, whichever comes first.
Sitting Supreme Court justices and district court judges select the chief justice.
The North Dakota Court System said ballots for the position were mailed out Nov. 10, and will be counted Dec. 10 at 11 a.m.
