An inmate has died at a Pennsylvania jail from what officials said was a “medical emergency.”

The unidentified 38-year-old male Allegheny County Jail inmate was stricken at about 10 a.m. Monday, according to a statement released by jail Warden Trevor Wingard.

Staff members performed “lifesaving measures” on the man as did paramedics but he was declared dead at 10:30 a.m.

According to Wingard’s statement, the man was brought to the jail on Oct. 1 on harassment charges.

He was sentenced for two protection-from-abuse violations while being held.

An internal review is being conducted, and Allegheny County police are also investigating.
