PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - With the end of the record-long government shutdown in sight, Illinois lawmakers are voicing their opinion on the Senate’s recent vote to bring the shutdown to a close.
The Senate voted 60-40 on a deal that would potentially end the government shutdown. Eight democrats joined Senate Republicans to pass the vote.
Illinois Republican Congressman Darin LaHood said he is happy with the progress that was made in the U.S. Senate due to the eight democrats voting to end the shutdown.
Although there is a way to go, Lahood said there is an “obligation to get the government open” and that healthcare funding should not delay that goal.
