LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Gov. Jim Pillen announced the appointment of District Judge Derek Vaughn of the 4th Judicial District, which serves Douglas County, as an associate justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court on Monday.
Vaughn succeeds Justice Lindsey Miller-Lerman , who retired Oct. 31 after 33 years of service. Miller-Lerman represented the 2nd Judicial District, which includes Douglas County; she was also the first woman to serve on the state Supreme Court.
Vaughn, the first Black justice on the Nebraska Supreme Court , is Pillen’s third appointment to the high court; he appointed Chief Justice Jeffrey Funke about a year ago and Jason Bergevin this past February.
