Portland police on Monday identified the man who died after trying to cross a Northeast Portland street in a wheelchair last month as 59-year-old Don Edney .

Edney was hit by a car while trying to cross Northeast 122nd avenue just before 8 p.m. on Oct. 29, police said. He was transported to the hospital, police said, and died the next day.

Edney was one of three people who died after being hit by cars that night on a network of streets that the city has designated as “high crash” corridors. A bicyclist and another pedestrian were also struck. All three crashes happened within two hours of each other and were less than two miles apart.

Police said the driver who hit Edney stayed at the scene of the crash and cooperated with investigators. Officers have not arrested anyone in connec
