TAMPA, Fla. — After two straight weekends of chaos on the pitch, the Spokane Velocity and its fans are gearing up for what is expected to be a crazy final this weekend.
The last two games for the Velocity have ended in a penalty shootout, both of which were one thanks to heroic goalkeeping from Carlos Merancio.
The Velocity keeper saved two penalty kicks Sunday night at One Spokane Stadium to defeat Portland Hearts of Pine and lift Spokane to the USL League One championship match for the second straight season.
Merancio also came up clutch in the match before against South Georgia Tormenta F.C., saving a penalty that advanced the Velocity to Sunday night's crazy game.
