Every year, pensioners in India need to confirm that they are still alive to continue receiving their pension. This confirmation is called a Life Certificate. For digital submission, it is referred to as a Digital Life Certificate (DLC).
The purpose of this process is to ensure that pension payments are made only to eligible pensioners, preventing fraud or misuse.
Earlier, pensioners had to visit their bank or pension office in person. They often had to stand in long queues to submit their certificate. The certificate was a physical, signed paper, which was then processed manually.
With government digitisation initiatives, this process has become simpler and faster. Pensioners can now use Jeevan Pramaan, an Aadhaar-based digital platform, to submit their Life Certificate. Jeevan Pramaan
