GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gov. Ron DeSantis said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has submitted a permit to federal leaders allowing the state to oversee the recreational red snapper fishery in state and federal waters off the Atlantic coast starting next year.
The season would be extended to 39 days in 2026, up from 2 days this year.
“We know we can do this effectively, and we know this is something that can make a big difference for our recreational anglers, particularly in northeast Florida,” DeSantis said.
The governor said the extended season would also boost economic growth in coastal communities.
