CINCINNATI (ENQUIRER) - The Justice Department has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out P.G. Sittenfeld’s convictions, saying it wants “to give full effect” to President Donald Trump’s pardon of Sittenfeld and “avoid any remaining doubts about its scope,” according to our partners at the Enquirer.
The request was made in a brief filed Nov. 10 in the Supreme Court by Solicitor General D. John Sauer.
Although Trump pardoned Sittenfeld in May, the former Cincinnati city councilman still wants the high court to weigh in on his case. Sittenfeld said the pardon did not return the $40,000 fine he had to pay or eliminate the “collateral consequences” of his convictions for bribery and attempted extortion.
