COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - As temperatures drop, Safe House Ministries is working to get homeless people off the streets and into warm shelter.

Director Neil Richardson said the organization expects roughly 50 to 60 people may need a warm place to sleep tonight. He said their mission extends beyond providing shelter.

“We made a promise a long time ago that we would always have a place that’s safe and warm,” Richardson said.

Shelter vans to pick up homeless individuals

Safe House Ministries announced it will begin picking up homeless people and taking them to shelter due to freezing temperatures. The vans will run along 2nd Avenue, Hamilton Road, and an area along Veterans Parkway across the street from the John B Amos Cancer Center.
