Donald Trump is no mathematician, as his promise to pay a $3000 dividend to most US households from tariff revenues demonstrates, yet again.
We’ve always known Trump isn’t particularly numerate. Social media has had a lot of fun with his repeated assertions that he has cut US drug prices by “1200, 1300 and 1400, 1500 per cent.” (Patients would be delighted if they were actually being paid by the pharmaceutical companies, handsomely, to take their drugs).
At the weekend, he floated the prospect of using revenue from his beloved tariffs to provide $US2000 tax cuts for households.
