RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond City Council faced a packed chamber Monday night, many of whom came to talk about affordable housing.
“We are becoming a place where if you are upper income, sure you can find a place to live, but to be a thriving city, we need everyone who wants to be here is able to be here,” said Derek Starr Redwine with RISC.
Taking up many of the seats were members of Richmonders Involved to Strengthen Our Communities, an organization consisting of 28 congregations throughout Richmond, Henrico and Chesterfield.
The council approved $2 million from the delinquent tax sales fund to go into the affordable housing trust fund as part of the consent agenda.
RISC members applauded the move but said it falls far short of what should be there.
