WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The Newton Board of Education voted in favor of a school bond election on Monday night.

USD 373 will ask voters to approve a bond not exceeding $50 million to upgrade and improve schools across the district, including upgrading storm shelters, adding intruder locks to classrooms, and adding a culinary center and science labs to the high school.

The majority of the funds, about $31.4 million, would go to Newton High School for the following projects: • Replace 40% of the existing movable walls • Culinary addition and storm shelter • Science labs addition and storm shelter • Existing science lab renovation (built in 1972) • Exterior restoration work • Swimming pool equipment replacement and gutter upgrades (built in 1972) • Brooks ADA upgrades to entry
