LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Louisville officials say safety is the priority as crews continue a methodical cleanup at the UPS plane crash site.

“UPS has brought in a contract contractor to work with the EPA, work with MSD to make sure that the entire site is cleaned up,” Mayor Craig Greenberg said.

Greenberg cautioned that there is no firm timeline to reopen Grade Lane near the crash site.

“Most of the large pieces from the debris field have been removed," he said.

Jody Meiman, director of Louisville Metro Emergency Services, said crews are decontaminating anything that comes out of the zone — recovery vehicles and equipment included — and pausing debris removal to search for additional victims.
