Police arrested a 21-year-old man who they say threatened several people with a knife inside a Rider University dorm Monday afternoon, police said.

Alex Theis, 21, of Delran, is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and various weapon offenses, according to a statement from the Lawrence Police Department.

Theis is identified as a Rider student in several online listings, but his status at the university was not clear Monday.

Investigating police officers found Theis confronted several other people inside Poyda Dormitory on campus while threateningly holding a knife, the police department said.

When police received the report about the confrontation around 1:48 p.m., Rider University officials placed the campus under a shelter-in-place order, authorities said.
