BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - More than 240 families in west Jefferson County are getting a head start through Fairfield City Schools’ Head Start and Early Head Start programs, according to program leaders.

Despite national uncertainty over federal funding, staff say classrooms are full, teachers are focused, and parents are getting the help they need to build a better future.

A full-circle program for families

Program Manager Diane Chavers said the federally funded programs provide free early childhood education and family support from birth through preschool age, along with prenatal services for expectant mothers.

Children learn through a curriculum that includes daily assessments, home visits, parent-teacher conferences, and field trips at no cost to families.
