BROOKINGS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -When Sylvie Zgonc was getting recruited to play volleyball at South Dakota State, Head coach Dan Georgalas sold her on the idea of becoming the Summit League player of the year.

In 2024 that came true, one year after earning rookie of the year.

As Joseph Lemelin tells us, our Karl’s TV and Appliance Athlete of the Week just kept getting better and better and she’s still just a junior.

SDSU’s volleyball coach Dan Georgalas said, “She’s done so much for us we’ve already seen so much growth with the six rotation game. Because that six row outside hitter has to do all five skills: Serve, pass, attack, block, dig. There’s a heavy load on Sylvie’s shoulders and she does all five skills really well.”
