New Delhi: On Tuesday the Supreme Court allowed a curative petition filed by Surendra Koli, who had been convicted and sentenced to death in one of the Nithari murder cases. With this decision, Koli will now walk free, having already been acquitted in all other connected cases.
One of India’s most horrifying criminal cases, the Nithari killings, came to light on December 29, 2006, when skeletal remains of eight children were found in a drain behind businessman Moninder Singh Pandher’s house in Nithari, Noida. The horrific incident shocked the entire nation and triggered a legal battle that stretched for almost two decades.
