The Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted Surendra Koli in the murder and rape case related to the 2005-2006 Nithari killings in Noida. The court approved Surendra's curative petition, which he had filed against his conviction.
In February 2011, the Supreme Court upheld Koli's conviction in the murder case of a 15-year-old girl. However, after being acquitted in the remaining 12 cases by the Allahabad High Court, he filed a curative petition once again this year.
A bench of CJI BR Gavai, Justice Surya Kant, and Justice Vikram Nath, while quashing Koli's conviction, ordered his immediate release.
