Victoria's police union boss has slammed new state laws aimed at cracking down on violent protesters.
The Allan government will tomorrow introduce laws into parliament giving police the power to demand dangerous protesters remove face masks.
But officers can only do so if the protester has committed, or they reasonably believe the protester intends to commit, an offence at a public rally.
Premier Jacinta Allan initially promised a full ban on face coverings or masks at protests but admitted she had to settle for something workable that would get through parliament.
