Delhi cricket suffered a major setback on Tuesday when Jammu and Kashmir, powered by opener Qamran Iqbal’s brilliant century, defeated them by seven wickets. This was J&K’s first-ever win over the formidable opposition in the history of Ranji Trophy cricket.

After four matches, Delhi, coached by Sarandeep Singh, is sixth among eight teams in Group D with seven points. It would take a miracle for them to qualify for the knockouts, having only four points from three home games.

Questionable selections, poor strategies, the absence of savvy captaincy, and a state unit troubled by factionalism and infighting have contributed to the team’s downfall.

Since 1960, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir have met 43 times, with Delhi winning outright in 37 of those games.
